Double 9 Festival<\/strong> \u91cd\u4e5d\u8282<\/strong><\/span> also known as the\u00a0Chrysanthemum festival\u00a0\u83ca\u82b1\u8282<\/strong><\/span>, the Yang Festival \u91cd\u9633\u7bc0<\/span><\/strong>; In I-Ching, 9 is a yang<\/em>\u00a0number; Yang refers to maximum positive forces, which also means the Sun. As such, the 9th day of 9th lunar month becomes\u00a0Double 9,<\/em>\u00a0which is too strong in\u00a0yang forces (Positive forces\uff09. <\/em>According to traditional Chinese spiritual concept, this is a potentially inauspicious date. In order to avoid inauspicious\u00a0occurrence, it is customary to climb a high mountain, drink\u00a0Chrysanthemum\u00a0wine and wear zhuyu<\/em>\u00a0\u8331\u8438<\/strong><\/span> plant.\u00a0Both chrysanthemum and zhuyu<\/em> are considered to have cleansing qualities and cure illnesses. Some people also have the custom of visiting the graves of their ancestors to pay respects.<\/p>\n

Double 9 festival started as a day to drive away inauspicious fates, but\u00a0over time it became a day of celebration. In contemporary times it is an occasion for hiking and chrysanthemum appreciation. Stores sell rice cakes \u7c73\u7cd5<\/span><\/strong>, (which has a homonym for height<\/em> \u9ad8<\/strong>); inserted with mini colorful flags to represent zhuyu<\/em>. Most people drink\u00a0chrysanthemum\u00a0tea or chrysanthemum wine.\u00a0Chrysanthemum\u00a0also has the appearance of the sun (a homonym for\u00a0yang<\/em>\u00a0\u9633<\/strong>).<\/p>\n
